On 10 February 1946, Rue d'Aubervilliers metro station was renamed “Stalingrad” by a decision of the Council of Paris to commemorate the victory of the Red Army over the Wehrmacht’s forces in the Battle of Stalingrad, which became a turning point in World War II.

The Soviet forces defeated the Nazis on 2 February 1943, and so the metro station was renamed to coincide with the third anniversary of their victory.

The station is located on the border between the 10th and the 19th arrondissements of Paris. It still bears the name “Stalingrad”.
