The verdict executed in the case of atrocities committed in Leningrad Region.

On the morning of 5 January, people are gathering on Kalinin Square in front of the Gigant Cinema, which will soon witness the execution of German criminals. An investigation has established that during the occupation of the Leningrad region, these people shot, hanged, burned alive, and tortured in prisons and camps 52,355 civilians, while 404,230 people were forcibly driven into German slavery. Among those sentenced to death are Wehrmacht Major General Heinrich Remlinger, Captain of the German Army Karl-German Strufing, platoon commander Ernst Boehm, Oberfeldwebel Fritz Engel, Lieutenant Eduard Sonenfeld, ore-freighter Skotki Erwin, and soldier Gerer Erwin Ernst.

The criminals are loaded onto trucks to drive them to the gallows. “Their last moments once again set them before the contempt-filled eyes of the people. Once again they shall hear the whistles and curses that accompanied them to their shameful death”, wrote correspondent Mark Lanskoy in Leningradskaya Pravda. The verdict blasts from the loudspeaker across the square. The guards place nooses around the criminals' necks. Tens of thousands of Leningraders freeze in anticipation of the execution of the sentence. “The vehicles start moving ... The last support slips from under the feet of the condemned". The clock struck 11 am.
