Military Court in Smolensk Military District sentences perpetrators of atrocities in the surrounding area.
The military court heard the case of ten members of the Wehrmacht Security Divisions, the military commandant's office, and the military infirmary from 15-19 December. They were indicted for the destruction of Smolensk and the surrounding settlements, torture, and the mass murder of Soviet citizens and Red Army prisoners of war.
The tribunal sentenced seven defendants, including an interpreter of the commandant's office, a medical infirmary assistant, and a security division commander to death by hanging. Three other defendants found guilty of complicity were sent to hard labour camps due to their low rank.
