Event: The first list of Austrian war criminals has been published.

Location: Vienna, Austria.

Starting from 8 May 1945, a few hours before the official surrender of Germany, the Provisional Austrian Government in Vienna, under the leadership of the Allied Council for Austria, introduced the first laws banning the Nazi, or National Socialist German Workers', Party (NSDAP) and prosecuting war criminals. People's courts were set up to conduct trials in a number of Austrian cities, and a commission for the preparation of trials against war criminals was convened. Examining various documentary and oral testimonies from all over Austria, the commission published the first 86 names of high-ranking Austrian Nazis on 4 December. The publication was featured in various newspapers, including Arbeiter-Zeitung (Vienna).
