Event: French occupation forces in Germany begin prosecuting Nazis. The commander of the French army in Germany's French occupation zone, Marie-Pierre Koenig, issued Order No. 20 on the responsibility of all persons convicted of war crimes committed since 1 September 1939.

Location: The city of Baden-Baden in the French occupation zone

In accordance with the order, by 1953 2,130 people were charged, of whom 1,639 were convicted and 491 acquitted. The French courts of occupation became courts of the first resort in more than 124 cases, including major lawsuits against concentration camp personnel and cases of crimes against humanity.
